About Powerlifting

The URI Powerlifting Team is a nonprofit student organization dedicated to promoting safe engagement in powerlifting and strength training by providing structured programming, educational resources, competitive outlets, and a strong community. Our overarching mission is to transform fitness culture by establishing a family of athletes focused on authentic strength. Our vision is to become one of the most competitive Collegiate Powerlifting teams in New England, known for both athletic achievement and our strong character. We foster a welcoming environment for all lifters and ensure equal participation regardless of background or identity. Membership is open to all URI undergraduate and graduate students. We host structured practices each week to help members master the squat, bench, and deadlift, and we proudly align with USA Powerlifting's drug-free values. Over the last year, we've grown into a 30+ person team and consistently qualify athletes for Collegiate Nationals.
