The URI Badminton Club unites badminton players of varying skill levels. All are welcome, whether as beginner, intermediate, or advanced players. There are no tryouts, and membership is determined holistically, with openings for anyone willing to learn.
Members will have the opportunity to meet new players, participate in tournaments, and engage with the skills necessary to improve their performance in a uniquely popular sport. Furthermore, members are encouraged to involve themselves with members at different levels and to participate in intercollegiate opportunities as they arise. Throughout our regular season, we will compete against other local universities within New England and the Northeast regional bracket, such as Brown. In the Badminton Club, members will gain the strategic and technical knowledge to play badminton at the competitive level.

- We primarily compete against other teams in New England and in the Northeast regional bracket.
How do athletes get to games?
- We carpool using personal vehicles.
Aside from practices and competitions, what other commitments are expected from members of the team?
- Open-mindedness is probably one of the traits I would rank highest among other commitments expected from members of our team. To be actively involved with our team requires receptiveness to techniques and styles of play that members may be unfamiliar with.

Is prior experience needed to join your team?
- We welcome students with competition experience or willingness to become involved in competition, but our club is open to players of all skill levels. No tryouts are required for membership. All members will be taught and practiced at their skill level.
How competitive is your team?
- We participate in regional competitions. Many of our members are beginners who have not played since high school and are looking to polish their skills. Additionally, many of our associate members have been playing for decades and have competed at the international level. Though not an expectation, we encourage all members to play competitively.
