The URI Men's Ice Hockey team competes in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA), one of the top leagues on the East Coast. The ECHA is a regional league that is part of the national ACHA Division I program and is comprised of 11 teams: URI, Drexel, NYU, Towson, Lehigh, George Mason, Navy, Villanova, West Chester, Temple, and William Paterson. The winner of the ECHA regular season earns a bid to the ACHA National Tournament. URI Hockey also plays against some NCAA Division III opponents as well as other top ACHA teams from across the country. Home games are played at our on-campus rink. The season begins in September and concludes in March, which includes practicing four times a week and two games per weekend — adding up to approximately 40 games in total.
