The University of Rhode Island Women's Sailing Team has achieved a historic milestone, qualifying for the NEISA Team Race Conference Championships for the first time in program history.
The Rams secured their place in the championship by finishing second at the Callahan Trophy regatta, held March 28–29. The result capped a standout weekend of competition and propelled the team into the conference championship field.
URI will also be the only club team competing in this year's NEISA championship, underscoring the program's rapid growth and competitive success within a traditionally varsity-dominated landscape.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the team's hard work, dedication, and teamwork," said Ellen Reynolds, Vice President for Student Affairs.
Head Coach Joakim Karlsen credited the team's collective effort throughout the season and highlighted the contributions of Assistant Coach Kate Bjerregaard, noting her instrumental role in the team's development.
The Women's Sailing Team's qualification marks a defining moment for the program and reflects the continued strength and potential of club sports at the University. The Rams will look to carry their momentum into championship competition as they represent URI on the conference stage.
